ทำไมThe Creator (2020)ถึงได้ควรค่าแก่การพูดถึง
ทีมนี้ได้รับโจทย์จากวันจับฉลากดังนี้

2.) สิ่งของบังคับ: กล่องของขวัญที่ห่อแล้ว
3.) ตัวละครบังคับ: Alec หรือ Alice Benjamin ซึ่งมีอาชีพเป็นศิลปิน
4.) คำพูดที่ต้องใช้: “You are not supposed to be here.” หรือ “คุณไม่ควรอยู่ที่นี่”
ณ.ห้องแลปแห่งหนึ่งมีนักวิทยาศาสตร์ทำการสร้างหุ่นยนต์สี่ตัว โดยให้พวกมันทำการฝึกฝนพัฒนาความสามารถของพวกมันตามอารยธรรมของมนุษย์ เช่น การต่อสู้, กีฬา, การเต้นรำ และศิลปะ เมื่อถึงวันที่ต้องทดสอบความก้าวหน้า ปรากฎว่าเครื่องที่วัดผลของหุ่นที่สร้างศิลปะแจ้งกับนักวิทยาศาสตร์ว่าหุ่นตัวนี้ไม่ได้พัฒนาอะไรเลย ทางนักวิทยาศาสตร์จึงจำเป็นต้องกำจัด เนื่องจากไม่ผ่านการวัดผลความสามารถ ทั่งที่จริงแล้วหุ่นตัวนี้สามารถวาดภาพลงสีได้อย่างงดงาม
ทำไมหนังเรื่องนี้จึงโดดเด่น
The Creator ใช้โครงเรื่องที่เรียบง่ายและมีความขัดแย้งหลักเพียงเรื่องเดียว คือผู้สร้างจะให้โอกาสหุ่นยนต์ศิลปินต่อไปหรือไม่ การมีปัญหาหลักที่ชัดเจนทำให้หนังสามารถเล่าเรื่องได้ภายในเวลาประมาณ 5 นาที โดยไม่จำเป็นต้องอธิบายโลกอนาคตอย่างละเอียด ผู้ชมเข้าใจได้ทันทีจากเครื่องแต่งกาย ห้องทดลอง ดนตรี และงานภาพว่าเรื่องราวกำลังเกิดขึ้นในโลกของหุ่นแอนดรอยด์
แทนที่จะสร้างฉากอนาคตขนาดใหญ่หรือVFXราคาแพง หนังเลือกใช้พื้นที่จำกัดผ่านการใช้แสงและสี โดยทีมนี้ออกแบบรายละเอียดภายในฉากให้ทำหน้าที่แทนคำอธิบาย วิธีนี้ช่วยให้ทีมสามารถสร้างบรรยากาศแบบ Sci-Fi ได้โดยไม่ต้องใช้งบประมาณหรือโลเคชั่นจำนวนมาก และเนื่องจากทีมผู้สร้างนำภาพยนตร์เรื่องนี้ไปแข่งขันบนเวทีที่ประเทศจีน ซึ่งไม่ได้ใช้ภาษาอังกฤษหรือภาษายูเครนของทีมผู้สร้างเป็นภาษาหลัก พวกเขาจึงเลือกก้าวข้ามข้อจำกัดด้านภาษา โดยการใช้การแสดงเป็นการเล่าเรื่องและลดบทพูดให้น้อยที่สุด วิธีนี้ไม่เพียงช่วยให้ผู้ชมจากต่างวัฒนธรรมสามารถเข้าใจเรื่องราวได้ แต่ยังทำให้อารมณ์และแก่นความคิดของภาพยนตร์ถูกถ่ายทอดออกมาในรูปแบบที่เป็นสากลมากขึ้น

ความหมายและแก่นของ The Creator
หนังเรื่องนี้เมื่อดูจบแล้วคนดูอย่างเราจะตั้งคำถามของชื่อเรื่อง The Creator ซึ่งชื่อนี้มันสื่อถึงเป็นใคร ในตอนแรกเราจะมองเห็นว่านักวิทยาศาสตร์คือผู้สร้างหุ่นแอนดรอยด์ขึ้นมา และมีอำนาจตัดสินว่าหุ่นตัวใดควรได้รับโอกาสให้อยู่ต่อ แนวคิดนี้คล้ายกับการที่รัฐใช้งบประมาณเพื่อพัฒนาประเทศและแสดงศักยภาพของชาติในด้านต่าง ๆ เช่น การสนับสนุนนักกีฬาเพื่อเข้าแข่งขันในเวทีนานาชาติ (นักกีฬา), การส่งเสริมพิธีกรรมและการแสดงเพื่อดึงดูดนักท่องเที่ยว (การเต้นรำ) หรือการพัฒนาความสามารถด้านการต่อสู้เพื่อสะท้อนศักยภาพทางการทหาร(การต่อสู้) และการสนับสนุนศิลปะและวัฒนธรรมเพื่อแสดงอัตลักษณ์ของประเทศ (ศิลปิน) โดยผู้สร้างนั้นก็คือเจ้าของเม็ดเงินที่สร้างและพัฒนาโปรเจคนี้
แต่เมื่อดูจบแล้วเราสามารถตีอีกความหมายหนึ่งคือหุ่นยนต์ศิลปินคือผู้สร้างตามชื่อของหนังเรื่องนี้ หุ่นยนต์ตัวอื่นมีรูปแบบการฝึกฝนและเป้าหมายการพัฒนาที่ชัดเจน ผลลัพธ์ของพวกมันจึงสามารถมองเห็นและประเมินได้ทันที แต่ศิลปินคือผู้สร้างสิ่งใหม่จากความคิด ความรู้สึก และการสังเกตสิ่งรอบตัว กระบวนการสร้างสรรค์จึงไม่สามารถกำหนดเป็นขั้นตอนตายตัวหรือวัดผลได้ภายในระยะเวลาที่แน่นอน
หนังจึงตั้งคำถามสำคัญว่า
1.) หุ่นยนต์ที่อยู่ภายใต้อำนาจของนักวิทยาศาสตร์ควรมีสิทธิ์โต้แย้งหรือไม่ เมื่อความสามารถที่แท้จริงของมันไม่สามารถวัดได้ด้วยระบบที่ถูกกำหนดไว้
2.) แม้นักวิทยาศาสตร์จะเป็นผู้ให้กำเนิดหุ่นยนต์ แต่ศิลปินก็พัฒนาผลงานจากการสังเกต เรียนรู้ และตีความสิ่งรอบตัว ซึ่งไม่แตกต่างจากการที่นักวิทยาศาสตร์เฝ้าสังเกตพัฒนาการของหุ่นยนต์เพื่อสร้างองค์ความรู้ใหม่
3.) เมื่อวิทยาศาสตร์ไม่สามารถวัดผลบางสิ่งได้ และผู้ตรวจสอบไม่มีความเข้าใจเพียงพอที่จะตัดสินอย่างเป็นธรรม ระบบนั้นยังควรมีอำนาจชี้ขาดคุณค่าของผลงานหรือไม่
ผู้สร้างหนังนี้พยายามตั้งคำถามว่า ใครกันแน่ที่มีสิทธิ์ตัดสินว่างานศิลปะชิ้นหนึ่งมีคุณค่า ผู้สร้างที่ต้องการผลลัพธ์ ระบบที่สามารถรับรู้ได้เฉพาะข้อมูล ผู้ชมที่รอการยอมรับ หรือศิลปินผู้กำลังพยายามค้นหาเสียงของตัวเอง บางคนสามารถแสดงความสามารถออกมาได้ทันที แต่บางคนอาจต้องใช้เวลานานกว่าจะค้นพบสิ่งที่ตัวเองต้องการสร้าง การที่ศิลปินยังไม่สามารถสร้างผลงานที่ได้รับการยอมรับในวันนี้ ไม่ได้หมายความว่าเขาจะไม่มีวันสร้างมันได้ สิ่งที่ศิลปินอาจต้องการจึงไม่ใช่การถูกตัดสินเร็วขึ้น แต่เป็นโอกาสและเวลาที่มากพอให้เขาได้เรียนรู้ พัฒนา และสร้างสิ่งที่สะท้อนความเป็นมนุษย์ออกมาอย่างแท้จริง เพราะศิลปะไม่ได้แยกออกจากการพัฒนามนุษย์หรืออารยธรรม แต่เป็นหนึ่งในพลังที่ช่วยให้อารยธรรมเก็บรักษาความทรงจำ แสดงอัตลักษณ์ ตั้งคำถามต่ออำนาจ และจินตนาการถึงความเป็นไปได้ใหม่ ๆ ของมนุษย์
Why it deserve the award:
The Creator uses a simple narrative structure built around one central conflict: whether the scientist will allow the artist android to continue developing or erase her because she has failed the evaluation. Because the conflict is clear, the film can tell its story in approximately five minutes without explaining its futuristic world in detail. Through the costumes, laboratory setting, character movements, music, and visual design, the audience immediately understands that the story takes place in a world of androids.
Instead of building a large futuristic environment, the film uses a limited space and allows the details inside the laboratory to explain the world. This helps the team create a convincing science-fiction atmosphere without requiring a large budget or multiple locations.
The production also took place in China, where neither English nor Russian—the languages used by the director and team leader—was the common language shared by everyone involved. The filmmakers solved this problem by reducing the dialogue and relying on performance, movement, music, and visual storytelling. The audience understands the story through what the characters do rather than through lengthy explanations.
The required character, an “artist,” is also placed at the center of the story. She is not included simply to satisfy the competition rules. Her development, and the failure of the system to recognize it, creates the entire conflict.
The four androids represent different areas of human development within civilization. Combat reflects humanity’s development of survival, defence, discipline, and military power. Sport represents physical development, competition, achievement, and the pursuit of excellence. Dance reflects the development of cultural expression, ritual, movement, and shared identity. Art represents imagination, emotion, memory, creativity, and the human ability to give meaning to life.
These skills therefore represent more than personal talents. Together, they show how human civilization develops through physical strength, social discipline, cultural expression, and creative thought.
The Meaning of The Creator
The scientist is not simply training machines. He is attempting to reproduce the development of human civilization through them. Each android becomes part of an experiment to determine whether the achievements of humanity can be taught, measured, and recreated by a machine.
However, the film reveals a major problem. Combat, sport, and dance can be evaluated through visible performance. Strength, speed, accuracy, coordination, and movement can be measured. Artistic development is different. Its value may come from imagination, emotion, interpretation, or the ability to create something meaningful—qualities that cannot always be reduced to measurable data. Although the artist android creates a beautiful painting, the evaluation system reports that she has made no progress. The problem is therefore not that she has failed to develop. The problem is that the system used to judge her cannot recognize her form of development.
This reflects the present world, where governments and institutions often support projects that are expected to contribute to human development, national progress, and civilization. Funding may be provided for athletes to represent a country at the Olympic Games, for military training to demonstrate national strength, or for dance and cultural performances to promote national identity and attract public attention.
These areas often produce results that can be clearly presented through rankings, medals, numbers, audiences, or public events. Artistic development, however, may require years of experimentation before its wider value becomes visible. Because its progress is difficult to measure in the short term, funding for artists and creative development is often overlooked, reduced, or cancelled.
After watching the film, the title The Creator makes us question who the real creator is.
The first meaning refers to the scientist who created the androids and has the authority to decide which one deserves to continue existing. He represents the person or institution controlling the resources behind the project. Like a government, investor, or powerful social class, he determines which areas of human development should be supported, how progress should be measured, and which results are considered valuable. From this perspective, the scientist is “the creator” because he owns the project, provides the resources, and creates the system in which the androids must develop.
However, the title also refers to the artist android. An artist is a creator because they produce something new from their own ideas, emotions, imagination, and understanding of the world. At the beginning, the scientist appears to be the creator because he gave life to the android. However, the artist android develops from something that was created into a creator in her own right. By using color and imagination, she produces an image that did not exist before.
This transformation is important because it shows another stage of human development within civilization. Civilization does not advance only because someone provides resources or builds a system. It also advances because individuals create new ideas, images, stories, and ways of understanding human experience. The film asks who has the right to judge the value of art when creative development cannot always be measured immediately. Artists may need time, opportunity, and support, because art is not separate from human development—it helps civilization preserve memory, express identity, and imagine new possibilities.
